CURVENT'S FIRE DAMPERS AND DUCTING ARE TESTED & CERTIFIED

Fire dampers are passive fire protection products used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) ducts to prevent the spread of fire inside the ductwork. Ducts are conduits or passages used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) to deliver and remove air. When a rise in temperature occurs, the fire damper closes, usually activated by a thermal element which melts at temperatures higher than ambient but low enough to indicate the presence of a fire, allowing springs to close the damper blades. Fire dampers can also close following receipt of an electrical signal from a fire alarm system utilising detectors remote from the damper, indicating the sensing of heat or smoke in the building occupied spaces or in the HVAC duct system.

Curvent is very proud to announce that their newly developed fire dampers have been tested and certified by Firelab in Brummeria. Firelab laboratory is the best-equipped fire test facility in South Africa and Africa with regard to large-scale facilities. They have associated themselves with specialists in the field of fire technology and related laboratories for product analysis in South Africa and abroad. Firelab is the only fire testing facility in South Africa that is set up to conduct the full range of testing required for the evaluation of fire safety in the Mining Industry.

Curvents dampers, along with the electromechanical and fusible links were thoroughly tested at 1000°C for two hours. The fire rated ductwork with the braces was tested at 300°C for 30 minutes. Both these products passed with flying colours and is now Firelab-certified for the important work they should do.
