We were requested to assist DSB water & fire consultants with the Natural Smoke Ventilation for both the Main School Hall and the Nutrition Hall for the Rethabiseng Primary School located just outside of Bronkhorstspruit.

We proposed the use of our Curvent Fire-X range of ventilators, ventilators were to be fusible link activated in the event of a fire. During meetings between Curvent & DSB it was decided that Curvent also assists with the CO2  monitoring of the main school hall as to increase the attention span of the learners, this is done by switching on the down flow forced ventilation fans to supply cleaner air in the hall and opening the roof ventilators to allow excess heat and stale air out of the school hall.

The system is activated via CO2 sensors, the SE Controls NV logic and OS2 Control panels making it a fully automated air control system. Another part of our scope of works was to supply band install Safe Room extraction fans, these are only 100mm in diameter as to prevent potential theft from the safe rooms.

Rudi Maritz faced several challenges on this project regarding constant local striking on site and tight deadlines.
